I now have news of Ryan Spivey’s first decathlon – all 10 events – over last weekend at Woodford Green. He started with the 100 metres – I think the first time he has ever run a competitive 100 metres in club colours – in 12.25 seconds (603 points) before long-jumping 5.69 metres (521 points) and putting the 6k shot 12.08 metres (611 points and a new pb). These 3 events on Saturday morning. The in the afternoon it was time for the high jump with 1.84 metres (661 points) and the day finished with a time of 53.69 seconds in the 400 metres (652 points).
Sunday morning started with the 110 metres hurdles with a new pb of 16.27 seconds (703 points) before two more throwing events – 31.38 metres in the discus (492 points) and 45.52 metres in the javelin (523 points). This javelin throw was 1 centimetre short of his best from earlier this year. The afternoon saw the pole vault with a clearance of 3.13 metres (389 points) before the decathlon ended, as usual, with the 1500 metres where Ryan did an excellent 4 minutes 37.59 seconds to earn 696 points. Add up all the points and you get to 5851. This put Ryan first in the under 20 decathlon and was a new under 20 club record beating Wayne Gadd’s previous record of 5190 points set in 1989.
So very well done to Ryan.
