We had a very successful social evening at Chequer Mead yesterday with nearly 100 athletes and parents present. The main part of the evening was the presentation of awards to our successful athletes from the 2013 track and field season – and we also held a raffle with proceeds going to a national children’s cancer charity. The evening also gave athletes, parents and club officials the opportunity to sit down and talk to each other. Our training sessions and our various league matches are usually far too busy to allow too much time for just sitting down and talking – last night gave us all the chance to do that.
I understand that Eddie Vermeer is looking to put a full list of the winners of the various awards and trophies on the club’s facebook pages, and so I won’t repeat them here. I expect there will be a number of photos appearing there as well.
And now we move onto this week’s big event – the Primary Schools Cross-Country races at East Court on Sunday October 13th. We need lots of help during the day for this. In the morning we need to set up the course and this will start at about 9.30. If you can help with this then simply turn up and pitch in. The first races of the day will be the year 7 and 8 races at 12.30 and 1 before the primary school races at 2 and 2.30. If you can help with the afternoon races then please get yourself to East Court by mid-day. If you have never been to East Court for these races then you have been missing something very special – it really is a great event and might well be the town’s biggest regular sporting event.
(Because of the schools cross-country races we will wait a couple of weeks before sending in a report of our presentation evening to the local press.)
