If you join an athletics club you can see the world. Wayne Gadd spread his wings again on Tuesday when he was in Budapest for the World Masters Indoor Championships. (Last year he went to San Sebastian in Spain for the same indoor championships.) To make it worth his while Wayne took part in the pentathlon for over 40s and therefore had 5 events to occupy himself.
He started with the 60 metres hurdles and a time of 9.42 seconds quickly followed by a 5.47 metres long jump. 9.27 metres in the shot and then an excellent 1.75 metres high jump before the last event of the day, the 1000 metres. Here Wayne was timed at 3 minutes 4.73 seconds for an overall point score of 3218. This gave Wayne 11th place out of the 30 or so athletes who took part. So very well done to Wayne. Next stop Hastings for the senior match on April 19th ?
