The 2014 summer season has eventually reached its end

I think the summer season has now come to its end. Last weekend – September 20th and 21st – we had Ryan Spivey representing Sussex in the English Schools Combined Events Championships at Boston in Lincolnshire – this was Ryan’s last schools event as he is now at University. He was a little below his best in most of the events except for the discus where he threw a new pb of 38.57 metres. However injury prevented him starting the very last event of the decathlon – the 1500 metres – and so he was deemed to have withdrawn from the competition. However his points score at that time was 5337 which, on its own, would have put him in about 13th place. But as I have indicated he was deemed not to have completed the event.

And the very last performance of the summer came today – September 27th – when Vicki Pellett went to Sandy in Bedfordshire for an end-of-season hammer throw. And she came away with a new pb (and new under 15 club record) of 43.47 metres. A great way for Vicki to end the season – a season that has seen a large number of excellent performances from many of our athletes. I am already looking forward to the summer of 2015.
