News from the first week of April (updated for results from weekend Open Meetings)

Training session last Wednesday

We had a session for mostly under 13 athletes last Wednesday (April 1) morning at Imberhorne School and with the sun shining most of the time it was a great morning. 20 athletes split into three groups with nearly an hour on each of the 3 events – Phil Rogers taking the javelin, Lester Medcalf the long jump and Malcolm Green the high jump with help from Karen Wells and Amber West. (See facebook for a photo of the athletes.)

We’ll see if we can fit anything similar into half-term week at the end of May.

Open Meetings over the Easter weekend

K2 last Sunday saw a number of our athletes taking part with Abby Beswick getting her season under way with new pbs in both sprints – 12.61 seconds in the 100 and 25.75 in the 200. (Her 200 time was inside the English Schools entry standard.) She added an 8.91 metres shot putt. Also running in the 100 – and for the first time – under 13 Olivia Aston did 15.30 seconds while a slightly older Phil Rogers recorded 13.02 seconds to go with a 5.28 long jump. Lucy Rogers putt the shot a little bit further than before with 4.39 metres, alongside a 3.04 metres long jump.

Running slightly further Jamie Osborne’s first under 17 400 metres race brought him a time of 58.43 seconds, while Callum Stone again looked good in his under 13 1500 metres races in 5 minutes 14.13 seconds. Harry Durgan also did the under 17 1500 metres with a time of 4 minutes 53.87 seconds. Ewan Dallas was another under 17 1500 metres runner, but in his case it was at Tonbridge on Easter Monday – 4 minutes 37.11 seconds for a pb.
