Looking forward to the Club Championships
On Tuesday June 16 and Thursday June 25 we are holding our own Club Championships at Imberhorne. There will be events for the under 11s , under 13s and under 15s and we’d like to see all of our members in those age-groups taking part – and especially those members who are a little hesitant about competing in our league matches. The club championship are a good place to start your competitive athletics as you will be competing against people you know and of course at a venue you are familiar with.
There is a charge for the championships of £2 on each night – this will enable you to compete in whichever events you want to. We’d like to think that you would be happy to take part in all the events on any one evening. The events will start at 6.30 on each evening and you should be at Imberhorne by about 6pm to pay your entry fee, to collect your numbers for the events and then to warm up. The evenings will end at a later time than normal training sessions.
Mums, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents and anybody else you know can come along and watch you. We expect to have drinks and cakes on sale on both evenings.

Results from Under 15 match last Friday evening at Horsham
5 boys and 5 girls were able to make the journey to Horsham for the first meeting in this year’s Sussex Under 15 League.
Henry Aronson continued his impressive performances in the 800 metres which he won in a new pb of 2 minutes 6.8 seconds. To get the English Schools entry standard he needs to cut off another 0.8 seconds – let’s keep our fingers crossed for him at this week’s Sussex Schools Championships. Jamie Allbeury also did well to come second in the 800 B string in just over 2 minutes and 22 seconds. In the longer 1500 metres under 13 Callum Stone knocked a full 8 seconds off his previous pb with 4 minutes 50.6 seconds. For the girls Naomi Insole was second in the 800 metres, though still a little below her best from last year.
Otherwise for the girls it was the sprints that produced the best results. Emmie van Lieshout (13.4 seconds yet again) and Amber West (13.7 seconds again) produced a double first in the 100 metres and they came close to making it a double double in the 200. Emmie was one of three athletes crossing the line together, but was placed third while Amber produced a new pb of 28.4 seconds in winning the B string.
There were some good performances in the throws with Ben Beard winning the B string javelin in 23.27 metres to go with second place in the discus and a new pb of 8.99 metres in the shot. Or Shay wasn’t far behind in the shot with 8.90 metres. For the girls we had a new under 15 500g javelin record from Hannah Sands with 19.44 metres with the previous record-holder Daniella Taylor throwing 15.71 metres to win the B string – Daniella had set a new record in last week’s match at Erith.
Scott Shepherd worked hard at his three events and to end the evening both of the 4 x 100 metres relay teams did well to come second in their respective races.
Sussex Masters Championships on Sunday June 7
Our 2 masters athletes managed to keep the flow of medals from Sussex Championships going as they picked up 5 first places at the weekend’s Masters championships – to add to our haul from a couple of weeks ago. Eddie Vermeer won his 3 throws – shot, hammer and discus – while Phil Rogers’s successes came in the 200 metres and long jump.
This coming weekend
The Sussex Schools County Championships will take place this coming Saturday at the K2 Stadium. As it is a schools competition we have no have no say in who is picked for these championships. However we will have a number of our club members in action (plus one or two in the Surrey Championships at Kingston), with the more successful of them hoping to represent Sussex in the All England Schools Championships which this year are to be held in Gateshead on July 10 and 11. These All England Championships are one of the best meetings that you can ever be involved in.
