County Championships this coming weekend at K2 for Sussex and Kingston for Surrey
I don’t yet have many of the results from the weekend’s County Championships – but the star billing has to go to Ethan Scott in the Surrey Championships. On Saturday he had his 1500 metres heat before the final on Sunday afternoon. A great run of 4 minutes 37.47 seconds gave him a clear first place and so the gold medal. Not surprisingly his time was also a new under 13 club record beating Stephen McCrory’s record set in 1982 by about 7 seconds.
We did have another gold medal at the Sussex Championships, though in somewhat more fortuitous circumstances. In the under 17 mens 4 x 100 metres relay there were just three teams, one of which was a non-scoring team. So provided we got the baton round we were assured of a medal. The other scoring team from Eastbourne had the individual 100 and 200 metres champion in their team and not surprisingly they were a long way ahead of us. But something went wrong at their last take-over with the baton on the floor. So our team of Daniel leRoy, Harry English, Dorian Szatmari and James Pringle won the gold medal.
Other Sussex medals that I’m aware of came from Maddie Sims who was second in the under 13 girls minithon and then on Sunday we had a father and daughter pair of bronze medals with Lucy Rogers in the under 15 girls hammer and Phil in the senior mens triple jump.
Matt Rieley Night at Sackville this Tuesday evening
It’s now a year since Matt Rieley died and to mark the occasion we are holding a remember Matt evening down on the Sackville track. I’m not sure exactly sure what we’ll be doing. Entry fees will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust charity. Even if you hold an annual training season ticket we’d like you to contribute to the charity collection.
