A good day in Ashford’s sunshine

Under 13 and under 15 match on Saturday at Ashford

Our younger athletes started their season on Saturday on a very warm and sunny day down at the very impressive Ashford track in Kent. Great atmosphere with lots of mums and dads to support the athletes who all did great things. We came fifth out of the 7 clubs taking part and we could have done with a few more athletes. We look forward to more of you for the next match.

For a number of athletes it was their first tasting of club track and field athletics, and I think it true to say that it isn’t as forbidding as you may think. First timers were Jason Sullivan, Oliver Shelley, Oscar and Lily Nketiah, Ola Rutyna, Katya Kashubina, Grace McCullough, Lucas Cordingley, Callie Devlin and Rachel Tyler. We don’t have the full results as yet and we’ll send them to all the athletes when we do. I don’t really like to pick any particular performance as everybody contributed something to the team. However we should mention Grace McCullough who won the under 13 girls 75 metres and shot putt and was second in the 150 metres.

The team’s next match is on Saturday 19 May in Walthamstow in Essex, although before then the under 13s (school years 6 and 7) have a Sussex league match on the evening of Thursday May 10 at Crawley’s K2.

Under 17 and under 20 match on Sunday at Sutcliffe Park, Eltham

Our under 17s and under 20s (school years 10 and above) have their first match this coming Sunday 29 April at Sutcliffe Park – the same venue as many of the athletes went to last week for the senior match. Team manager Oliver Harnett will be giving more details to the athletes during the week.

Sussex County Championships

Time is beginning to run out if you are looking to enter the Sussex County Championships which take place over the weekend of May 12 and 13 at K2. Entries have to be in by next Sunday 29 April.
