It’s been busy over the last few days – and it’s busy next weekend as well

Sussex County Championships

A busy couple of days at K2 over the weekend for the Sussex County Championships with a wet cool Saturday followed by a much brighter and warmer Sunday. I don’t yet have the full results but we had a number of good performances and a reasonable number of medals. 2 first places saw Grace McCullough winning the under 13 minithon on Saturday while at rather the other end of the age scale Phil Rogers won the senior mens triple jump on Sunday morning. Ella West and Ellis Beynon also picked up triple jump medals. Ella Kessell’s good start to her throwing season continued with second place in the discus and the under 15 boys relay team provided a bit of a surprise with some excellent baton changes to come second behind a very fast team from Crawley.

Under 13 match (school years 6 and 7) last Thursday May 10 at K2

We had the first under 13 league match on Thursday evening. We didn’t have many boys, but the girls were able to fill all but one of the events, with a number of our athletes competing for the first time. As usual everybody did their very best – with a few doing throws for the first time – and with everybody contributing points for the team we finished third behind Crawley and Horsham.

Another busy weekend coming up

This coming weekend will be busy again. On Saturday the under 13 and under 15 weekend team have their second match of the season with a trip over the River Thames into Essex at the Walthamstow track. We will be going by coach, leaving from Imberhorne Upper School. Team managers Phil Rogers and Karen Wells will be giving out more details during the week.

Then on Sunday the senior team will go to Wimbledon for the second match of their season. Team managers Eddie Vermeer and Lester Medcalf are contacting athletes.

Sussex Schools Combined Events Championships

These championships take place at K2 in the half-term week on Wednesday May 30. The local secondary schools seem to take no interest in these championships, but you can make your own entry by going into the Sussex AAA website. Last date for entries is Monday May 21.

Anybody in school years 7 up to 11 can enter and I understand that Cameron Wells has already entered.

Any queries please talk to Lester Medcalf.
