Sussex Cross-Country League match on Saturday
We had 6 runners at the first cross-country league match of the winter down in Stanmer Park, which is close to Brighton & Hove Albion FC’s ground. I have now seen the results and there were some excellent performances from our athletes.
May Sippetts got things going in the first race and in a field of 40 runners she did very well to come 8th in the under 11 girls race. The under 11 boys race had over 60 athletes and our two runners both came in the top half – with Oliver Maranzano 18th and Luke Higgins 29th. Oliver still has another year as an under 11 cross-country runner.
For the under 15 boys Cameron Wells gave pole-vaulting a miss and, like May, he finished 8th. Another of our vaulters, Isaac Lancaster, was a little lower down the field of about 60 runners.
Antonia Deeley completed our squad in the under 17 girls’ race – a race which combined the under 17s with the under 20s, seniors and veterans into a field of more than 150 runners. Antonia was the 13th under 17 to finish.
The second league match will soon be here – it is on Saturday December 1 at Lancing Manor.
