We had athletes in action over the Easter weekend at K2 on Sunday and Tonbridge on Easter Monday, but it’s taken me most of the week to get hold of the official results. Of course it was bitterly cold and windy on both days, but the performances didn’t seem to suffer too much.
Our two female hurdlers got their season off to a great start at Tonbridge on Monday – Lois Drummie with 12.18 seconds in the under 15 75 metres hurdles (which put her third in the UK rankings so far this year) and Abby Beswick with 13.0 seconds in the under 17 80 metres hurdles. Abby also got in a good 4.81 metres long jump and 13.72 seconds in the 100 metres at Crawley. For some reason the officials made the long jumpers jump into the wind on Monday at Tonbridge.
Chloe Hollamby got her season under way with some decent runs – 26.97 for 200 metres and 42.52 for the 300 metres at Crawley and then 20.75 seconds for the 150 metres at Tonbridge. She was going to do another 300 metres at Tonbridge but she got so cold waiting for the race that she wisely decided to pull out.
Vicki Pellett was a little disappointed with her 7.89 metres putt in the under 15 shot at Crawley but she threw the discus a good healthy 21.05 metres.
Jamie Osborne and Phillip Hatch both competed in the under 15 boys track events – Jamie with 13.52 seconds in the 100 metres and 27.90 seconds in the 200 metres while Phillip got close to breaking the 60 second barrier in his 400 metres with a time of 60.08 seconds.
Well done to all these athletes for braving the very hostile conditions last weekend and getting the outdoor season under way.
This recent weekend we had Chloe Hollamby competing at Basingstoke and Crystal Palace and Abby Beswick at Bournemouth. I’ll bring you results when I can.
