I’ve just arrived home after being away on holiday for the last week and am gradually catching up with things. Last Friday Chloe Hollamby ran in the English Schools Championships at Birmingham in the under 17 ladies 300 metres. She ran in the third and last heat and was close to her best in coming fourth in 41.38 seconds. However this wasn’t good enough to get her into the final which took place on the Saturday – and which was won in a championship best time of 37.93 seconds
On Sunday afternoon down in Brighton we had 3 athletes taking part in the Sussex Under 13 championships and 5 taking part in the Under 11 quadkids event – while somewhere in Wimbledon there was some other minor sporting event taking place. There were some outstanding performances by one of our athletes in the under 13 championships – Oli Stuart. Oli won his heat of the 75 metres hurdles in 12.52 seconds, beating his own previous best of 12.7 seconds (which was itself the club record). Later in the final he went even faster with a time of 12.25 seconds for the gold medal – a race where the second place runner was over a second behind.
However this wasn’t the end of Oli’s afternoon because the long jump brought him a second gold medal with a best jump of 4.77 metres – another pb for him. So very well done to Oli for a great afternoon. In addition to this Hannah Sands took part in the girls javelin – where she finished fifth – and 800 metres and Henry Aronson ran in the boys 1200 metres.
In the Under 11 quadkids event Hattie Doswell, Amy Ellis and Lucy Rogers took part in the girls event with Jamie Waghorn and Daniel O’Sullivan in the boys event. Perhaps the best individual performance among our athletes came in the boys howler throwing where Daniel O’Sullivan’s throw of 29.69 metres was the best of all the athletes.
