A very disappointing turn-out for the Sussex Under 13 League final at K2 yesterday with just 9 athletes able to take part. So very well done to those 9 – Mia Russell, Katherine Woodhouse, Katie Wheeler and Amelia Barton for the girls and Oli Stuart, Robbie Easton, Alistair Schofield, Luke Hoskins and Henry Aronson for the boys – but where were the rest of you ? I don’t have the full results as yet but our hurdlers – Mia and Oli – did well by winning their races. I’ll bring you more news when I get the full results.
At the England Under 15 and Under 17 championships at Bedford on Sunday Chloe Hollamby threw herself over the finishing line in her heat of the 200 metres to gain a place in the final, as well as gaining a number of cuts and grazes as she fell. Her time was 25.68 seconds for a new pb. In the final she almost repeated that time with 25.69 seconds. Her 25.68 is a new club under 17 record – the previous best was indeed 25.69 seconds by Helen Wixon in the 1997 English Schools Championships in Sheffield. (John and Audrey Rogers and Jenny and Lester Medcalf were all at Sheffield to see that run by Helen.) If you’re wondering at how much difference there is between 25.68 and 25.69 seconds then my sums suggest that Chloe would have beaten Helen by 3 inches ! Also at Bedford on Sunday Lois Drummie found things hard in her under 15 hurdles heat and she didn’t make the final.
Earlier in the championships on the Saturday Chloe took part in the 300 metres and she can now say that she shares something with Usain Bolt. You will remember that Mr Bolt false-started in the 2011 World Championships – well Chloe false-started in her heat of the 300 metres. And both of them were disqualified.
