Following yesterday’s schools cross country, the athletics club would like to apologise for not holding the presentation of awards at the end of the races.
The first races for years 7/8 took place at 1230 and 1300 and the presentation for these was made at 1330. By this stage, few of the athletes were still at East Court because of the appalling weather. Following the final race at around 1445, many of the girls from the 1400 race had already left and we estimated it would still be at least another 45 minutes to an hour before we had been able to confirm the results.
We had to take in to consideration a number of different factors, the most important being the welfare and health of the children who were already cold, wet and tired, and being made to wait in the conditions we were at that time experiencing.
For the first time in 35 years and following the worst weather we have known to run the event in, we decided it would be better to cancel the presentations. We will be in touch with the different schools to see if we can arrange a visit and present the children with their various medals and trophies during their assemblies. We feel it is important that the children’s efforts are recognised appropriately and will be liaising with the schools to try and arrange this as quickly as possible.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are a club run entirely by volunteers. If you would like to assist the club in any functions, including to help run the schools cross country, please also send an email to the same address and we will happily talk about what role or function you would be interested in taking on.
