News from Crawley Open
A number of our athletes went to K2 last Saturday for the Crawley Open meeting – on what must have felt very cold in that bitter northerly wind. Making their first appearances in outdoor meetings under 13s Luci Sydenham (23.09 seconds) and Olivia Aston (23.35 seconds) ran in the same 150 metres race with Olivia also running in the 80 metres (12.48 seconds). Doubling up in both sprints Jamie Holme set 2 new under 17 club records with 9.78 seconds in his 80 metres race and 18.04 in the 150.
In the longer races Callum Stone, in his first under 13 track run, won his 1500 metres race in just under 5 minutes and 19 seconds with Harry Durgan 4 minutes 51.49 seconds in the under 17 race. The 600 metres saw under 13 Erin Harnett in just under 1 minute 59 seconds while under 17 Ewan Dallas got his season under way in just over 1 minute 40 seconds – he was in the same race as Tom Dean, who now runs for Tonbridge AC.
In the field events Lucy Rogers, now an under 13, putt the shot 4.25 metres and Erin Harnett went over 1.25 metres in the high jump. I also noticed that Vicki Pellett – now with Crawley – went over 45 metres for the first time in the hammer throw.
For those of you looking for more Open Meetings the Easter weekend will see a meeting at K2 on Sunday 5 April and another meeting on Easter Monday 6 April at Tonbridge.
In getting ready for the season we are now training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Imberhorne. And during the school Easter holidays we are going to run a morning session of Wednesday April 1 for our younger athletes. We did give out a letter last week telling our young athletes about this, but if you haven’t seen such a letter and would like to come then please contact Lester Medcalf on 01342 315589 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
