In July of this year Sarah Rusling beat Cat Shin’s senior ladies long jump record of 4.96 metres when she jumped 5.00 metres in the senior match at Portsmouth. However in the Horsham Open meeting on Sunday Cat took the record back when she jumped 5.01 metres – her first time over 5 metres. Under 20 Abby Beswick was also jumping and she jumped 5.27 metres. In the under 13 long jump Erin Harnett added a few more centimetres for a new pb of 4.14 metres – she also threw the 400g javelin 18.27 metres for another PB.
Lucy Rogers also came up with a pb when she putt the shot 5.27 metres and Jamie Holme had a couple of swift under 17 sprints – 11.8 seconds in the 100 metres and a new pb of 23.3 seconds in the 200. He will compete in the South of England championships over the weekend at Ashford.
On the morning of Tuesday August 11 a number of us will be helping out at the Ashurstwood Sports Day for primary school children. If anybody else would like to come along to help us then we will be at the John Pears playing fields from 9.15 to about mid-day.
This coming Saturday August 15 our senior athletes have their fifth and last Southern Athletics League match of the summer down in Bournemouth – a round trip of about 250 miles and we will be going by coach. (We had a trip to Poole earlier in the season, a trip that was also about 250 miles. Plus Portsmouth for the last match. Join an athletics club and see the world.)
Summer holidays will inevitably have an effect on our team, and on the other teams in the match we expect. The other teams taking part are Swindon, Poole Runners, Team Kennet as well as the home club Bournemouth.
