Results from Sussex and Surrey Indoor Championships plus Southern Counties Vets
In Saturday’s events at Sutton Abby Beswick (5.25 metres and 4 no-jumps) and Sarah Rusling (4.55 metres) competed in the Sussex long jump for Under 20s and senior ladies respectively – and they both won their events. Abby was also third in the under 20 60 metres final in 7.96 seconds and Daniel Rusling also picked up a bronze medal in the senior mens long jump with 5.19 metres.
Emmie van Lieshout got through to the final of the under 17 60 metres with 8.30 seconds in her heat but was a bit slower in the final with 8.5 seconds, while Jemma Edgar (4.28 metres), Erin Harnett (4.21 metres) , Lucy Rogers (2.91 metres) and Cameron Wells (3.60 metres) all long-jumped.
It was also good to see Lincoln Campbell in the Surrey 60 metres sprint, running against athletes some 30 years younger than himself.
Abby and Sarah came back for Sunday’s events with Sarah making it a double first in the sand-pit events when she won the triple jump with 9.82 metres, and Abby picked up her another first place when winning the 60 metres hurdles in 9.29 seconds
Also on Sunday Phil Rogers took part in the Southern Counties Vets championships at Lee Valley and he added to the medal tally with wins in both the long jump (5.06 metres) and 60 metres (8.10 seconds) in the over 45 age group.
Well done to all the athletes – whether you won medals or not.
