Reminder about Tuesday evening training
A reminder that Tuesday evening training now takes place at Sackville School and that training for all groups starts at 7 and finishes at about 8.30. Let’s hope things are a bit warmer than they were last Tuesday evening.
Thursday evening training will be at Imberhorne Upper School – juniors from 7 to 8 and older athletes from 7.30 to 8.45.
Last Wednesday at K2 for schools combined events
A miserably cold and wet day on Wednesday for the Sussex (and Surrey) combined events championships. Cameron Wells came fourth in the year 7 event while Erin Harnett was fifth in the junior girls event with Jenna Edgar not far behind. But the weather was perhaps the biggest winner on the day.
Last Friday evening at Horsham
Friday evening in half-term week is not perhaps the best time for the first Sussex Under 15 match of the summer – but there don’t seem to be enough weekends in the summer. We were rather short of athletes with 5 boys and 4 girls available to compete. I don’t have the full results yet but we once again saw Ethan Carrick looking very sharp in the sprints, well supported by Harry English. And a strong 300 metres run from Erin Harnett. Ethan Scott, running against athletes 2 and 3 years, ran what looked an excellent time in his 1500 metres. I’ll bring you more news when I get the results.
This coming Saturday 11 June sees the various county schools championships. We have a number of our athletes competing in the Sussex championships at K2 with at least a couple away in Spain for a school visit this week – arriving home on Friday. Let’s hope they still have energy left for Saturday.
I am aware that Naomi Insole will be running in the Surrey 100 metres – not Naomi’s normal distance – and I assume Mia Russell will be doing something in the Somerset championships.
The following weekend we will be back to club matches. On Saturday 18 June our senior team will go to Sutcliffe Park in Eltham for their next match and then on Sunday 19 June the under 13 and under 15 team go to Lewes again. I know it’s Father’s Day – when my children were that age I could think of nothing better to do than go and watch them compete. I hope that dads of our current young athletes will also choose to come and watch their sons/daughters competing.
