A busy weekend
Two days of athletics over the weekend with the senior team in action on Saturday at Eltham and the under 13 and under 15s competing on Sunday at Lewes.
For the match at Eltham we were horribly short of athletes with just 3 male athletes (the youngest of them was 40) and 6 female athletes – it was good to see Cat Shin and Jade Mitchell competing for the ladies. The ladies produced a number of first places with a double first in the triple jump for Sarah R and Jade and a 4 x 100 relay win at the end of the afternoon. We finished fourth out of the 5 teams taking part, well behind the top 3 clubs.
I haven’t had time to fully digest the results from Sunday at Lewes. We did see the sun shining for most of the day and this undoubtedly helped to lift the athletes – warm sunshine is always a help to athletes. A special mention to Hannah Plumb with a 1.47 metres clearance in the under 13 high jump. But there were other pbs which I’ll try to tell you about later in the week.
Also on Saturday we had a couple of athletes representing Sussex schools in an inter-county match at Sutton. Amber West in the under 17 girls long jump produced another pb. Following her win in the Sussex Championships last week she jumped another few centimetres with 4.79 metres her best. James Pringle ran in the under 15 boys 100 metres, but wasn’t quite at his best against some of the fastest sprinters in the country.
Training this week
Back to normal training this week with Tuesday evening at Sackville – 7 to 8.30 for all athletes. And then Thursday evening at Imberhorne where you will find a newly cleaned track – we can now clearly see all the different markings for the hurdle positions. Thursday training is 7 to 8 for under 13s and 7.30 to 8.45 for older athletes.
For those looking for some athletics during the week there is an Open Meeting at Crawley on Wednesday evening – I heard a few people taking about it yesterday at Lewes. Details on the Crawley AC website.
Match this coming Sunday 26 June
Our under 17 and under 20 athletes have their third match of the season this coming Sunday June 26 at Woking. The number of our athletes at the first 2 matches was embarrassingly small. It would be great to have more athletes this week, especially now that most of the exams are done with – but to date that looks unlikely.
What’s happening over the next week ?
Monday June 20 – committee meeting from 7.30/8 pm.
Tuesday June 21 – training for all at Sackville School from 7 to 8.30.
Wednesday June 22 – Open Meeting at K2.
Thursday June 23 – training for all at Imberhorne from 7pm.
Saturday June 25 – academy training at Imberhorne from 11 to 12.
Sunday June 26 – match for under 17 and under 20 athletes at Woking.
