A very busy few days
We’ve had a very busy last few days with an under 13 match last Thursday followed by a senior match on Saturday and an under 13/15 match at Hastings on Sunday. And in case you didn’t notice it has been hot. I’ll try to catch up with the results but I’d like to reflect a little bit about what happened on Saturday and Sunday.
The senior match saw us very low on athletes, especially for the ladies who had just 3 athletes. But the response from, in particular, Sarah Killick-Bird and Sarah Rusling was fantastic. Going from event to event (and coming first in many of them) with Sarah K-B going over 10 metres for the first time in the triple jump. Naomi Insole winning the B string javelin. And Phil Rogers also going from event to event to score points for the men, Harry English taking on the 400 for the first time, an 11.5 pb for James Pringle in the 100, Wayne Gadd remembering what it was like in the 400 hurdles. And we ended up in second place.
Then Sunday down in the sunshine at Hastings we had a great turn-out of under 13 and under 15 athletes with lots of mums and dads sheltering in the shade given by a couple of trees. Nearly 30 athletes were there, a great atmosphere, lots of pbs, lots of performances meriting AAA certificates and lots of trying hard in whatever events our athletes were doing. And it was Isaac Lancaster’s birthday as well.
Made me understand once again why I’m involved with athletics. Very fed up during last week when I realised we were down to 3 lady athletes for Saturday’s match and ending up with Sunday’s great turn-out.
Just one match this coming weekend
We have a match for our under 17 and under 20 athletes (school years 10 to 13) on Sunday June 25. Just down the road in Lewes. Let’s have another good turn-out.
