A very cold Sunday for the under 17s and under 20s
Our under 17s and under 20s compete as part of a joint team with athletes from Haywards Heath, Lewes and Eastbourne with the first match in bitterly cold conditions at Eltham in south-east London. We had 11 athletes competing – probably the most we have had since we joined forces with these other clubs a few years ago. I don’t yet have the full results but all of our athletes are to be congratulated on competing in such unwelcome conditions. But a particular mention for Joe Lancaster who started the day in the hammer throw and ended it with his first go at the steeplechase. I think they nearly had to break the ice in the water jump !!
I’ll try to bring more comment on the results later in the week.
Sussex County Championships
We are very pleased that 24 of our athletes have entered for the Sussex County Championships which take place over the weekend of May 12 and 13 at K2. This is the highest number we’ve had for a long long time and if you’ve got some spare time over that weekend then go along to support our athletes.
A free weekend ahead
We have one of the few summer weekends ahead – May 5 and 6 – when we are without a fixture.
Under 13 match on Thursday May 10
Our under 13s (school years 6 and 7) have a match on the evening of Thursday May 10 at K2 in Crawley starting at 7pm. Team manager Suzie Shelley will be contacting athletes in the next couple of days. There will be no training for our young athletes on that Thursday evening as you should all be going to K2.
A reminder of our training sessions
A reminder that we are now training at Sackville on Tuesday evenings and Imberhorne on Thursday evenings. Both sessions run from 7 to 8, although on Thursday evenings the coaches will offer extra training from 8 to 8.45 or so. The extra training will mainly be on the more technical events – hurdling and field events.
What’s happening over the coming week ?
Monday April 30 – circuit training at Imberhorne from 6.30 to 7.30
Tuesday May 1 – training at Sackville School from 7 to 8.
Thursday May 3 – training at Imberhorne from 7 to 8 or so. Extra training available from 8 to 8.45.
Saturday May 5 – Academy training at Imberhorne from 11 to 12.
