It’s been another busy weekend
A coach trip to Walthamstow in east London for our under 13s and under 15s on Saturday followed by a visit to Wimbledon for the senior match on Sunday meant a busy double weekend for some of our helpers – with both matches taking place in warm sunny skies.
The number of athletes going to Walthamstow was disappointing with just 4 under 13 boys and 3 under 13 girls – even though we were going by coach. Particularly disappointing that we had 11 under 13 girls at the midweek match at K2 just over a week ago, and then just 3 for the match in Walthamstow.
We had a couple of new club records set at Walthamstow with the boys 4 x 300 relay team of Daniel le Roy, George Collingwood, Cameron Wells and Christian Given taking nearly 3 seconds off the previous record set last year – both George and Cameron were part of the team from last year. And Grace McCullough beat Vicki Pellett’s under 13 shot putt record with her opening putt of 8.91 metres. Vicki set her record 6 years ago in 2012.
It was good to see Eoin O’Donoghue in action and he won the under 15 boys shot and was a good second in the discus. And the younger Tyler sister Rachel came up trumps with her first attempt at the high jump which she won with 1.40 metres.
The senior match at Wimbledon was much better attended. We finished second out of the 4 teams competing, behind the host club – and this was our second second finish of the summer. Sarah Killick-Bird had her usual busy afternoon with A string wins in the 2 hurdles races as well as the triple jump and B string wins in the shot, javelin and high jump. Rebekah Tyler continues to impress with a win in the A string shot and a strong second place in the discus with a great flat throw. For the men Daniel Rusling came up with a 6.25 metres pb to win the long jump, with a win in the triple jump coming a bit later.
Under 17/20 match this coming Sunday
A less busy weekend coming up with the under 17 and under 20 athletes (school years 10 to 13) in action at the Erith track, home of the Bexley club, on Sunday. Oliver Harnett is contacting athletes.
