It’s been raining
Just in time for our matches at the end of the week the rain came (plus quite a bit of wind). The M25 also had an effect on our Sunday match as several of our athletes were the victim of long queues on their way to the match at Dartford – but eventually they all arrived, though they may have missed some of their early events.
Friday night saw the under 15s at Horsham for the third Sussex Under 15 league match of the season and we just missed beating Horsham for second place – one more athlete doing a couple of events and we would have come second. A good number of pbs with particular mention to Cameron Wells with 3.25 metres in the pole vault. Another pb gaining an AAA grade came from Ella West with 13.0 seconds in the 75 metres hurdles. (She has also told me that she set a new triple jump record in the Imberhorne school sports.)
The under 15s have one more match when they go to Brighton on Friday evening August 31 for an all-Sussex final.
On Saturday Grace McCullough and Mya Lake represented Sussex in an under 13 inter-county match at Kingston. Mya struggled against a strong wind in the 100 metres while Grace was fourth in the shot, though not quite as far as she might have hoped.
We haven’t had full results from Sunday’s match and so I’ll wait before giving you more information. It was good to see Erin Harnett back in action after a few weeks on the sidelines.
Forthcoming training sessions
A reminder that we will continue training on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings through the school summer holidays. We will take a break in the second half of September but for the next few weeks we will be training.
Matches coming up
We have a couple of weeks without any matches before the senior team compete on Saturday August 18.
Looking rather further ahead the Sussex Combined Events championships take place over the weekend of September 8 and 9. We will do our best to give time to those athletes who will compete in these championships, especially in some of the events they are less used to.
What’s happening over the coming week ?
Monday July 30 – circuit training at Imberhorne Upper School from 6.30 to 7.30.
Tuesday July 31 – training for all at Sackville School from 7 to 8.15.
Thursday August 2 – training at Imberhorne from 7 to 8. Extra training available from 8 to 8.45.
Saturday August 4 – Academy training has now stopped. There will be sessions in September at East Court to prepare those of our athletes who will be doing the schools cross-country races on October 14.
