All England Championships
We have had a couple of our athletes competing at England Championships over this weekend, although in rather different age groupings. Cameron Wells was pole-vaulting in the under 15 boys event at Bedford while Wayne Gadd was competing in the over 45 British Masters Championships in Birmingham.
Cameron produced another pb with a clearance of 3.33 metres in his pole vault on Saturday. Also on Saturday Wayne was third in the 400 metres hurdles in a time of 69.92 seconds and fifth in his long jump with 5.55 metres. He returned on Sunday for the high jump when he cleared 1.63 metres before incurring a calf injury when trying to clear 1.66 metres.
And at the Crawley Open in Sunday’s heavy rain Gabi Holland came a very good second in the under 13 girls 1500 metres in just over 5 minutes and 26 seconds.
Under 13 and under 15 matches at the end of this week
We have our final 2 matches of the summer at the end of this week. On Friday evening our under15s will compete against other Sussex teams at the Withdean Stadium in Brighton and then on Sunday afternoon the under 13s will compete at Crawley’s K2 stadium.
We hope for a good turn-out of athletes in both matches.
Combined Events Championships
The Sussex and Surrey Combined Events championships take place over the weekend of September 8 and 9 at the Sutton track. We will do our best to give time to those athletes who will compete in these championships, especially in some of the events they are less used to. So far I am aware that Gabi Holland, Cameron Wells and Michael Sullivan have entered – it would be great to see a few more athletes taking part. Entries have to be made by August 31.
