Schools cross-country news

Schools cross-country races last Wednesday

We had a number of our athletes running in the Mid Sussex primary schools championships last Wednesday at East Court. An excellent run from May Sippetts in the girls race saw her finishing in second place and therefore qualifying for the all-Sussex races to be held in March. In the boys race we had three athletes in the top 13 – the significance of this being that the top 13 will be chosen for the all-Sussex races later in the winter. Oliver Maranzano was fifth, Luke Higgins 9th and James Polton 11th (and Ronit Naidu 20th). Oliver has another year at primary school and so will be able to take part in the 2020 races.

(Members of the club took an active part in these primary school races in setting out the course in the morning on the top field at East Court. Our thanks to those helpers.)

On the same day, but down in Brighton, the all-Sussex secondary school cross-country races took place. I haven’t seen a full set of results but I know that Michael Sullivan did well enough to earn selection for Sussex in an inter-county match in the next few weeks.
