Well done to the under 15s at their match on Thursday evening
We are seldom able to challenge the Crawley or Horsham clubs in the Sussex Under 15 league but, as long as we have a reasonable number of athletes, we will normally hope to contest third place with teams from Haywards Heath, Worthing and Chichester. And even with a couple of late cry-offs, as well as a few athletes away for half-term week, we were still able to field 8 girls and 7 boys. And with a willingness to fill events we did indeed finish in third place last Thursday evening at K2. 60 points behind Horsham (who were themselves some 60 points behind Crawley) but 60 points above the other 3 clubs.
That willingness to fill gaps saw both Beth Currie and Alannah McAllister long-jumping with Beth also throwing the javelin, while Hannah Gibbon did the shot. Jason Sullivan helped out in the javelin and while he didn’t throw it very far he was the only B string thrower and so earned 6 points for his first place.
The throwing events have been a great success this year and that continued with James Knott well over 9 metres in the shot, Ella Kessell over 22 metres to win the javelin as well as gaining second place in the discus, and Emma Smyth winning the B string hammer with a new pb of 21.71 metres.
And lots of noise from our parents to cheer on our track athletes as well. Great stuff everybody.
