Very well done to our athletes at the Sussex Schools Championships
We had 9 athletes taking part in the Sussex Schools Championships at K2 on Saturday and all 9 did exceptionally well, especially those who found themselves competing in one of the several heavy rain showers that ruled the day.
Our throwers have been in good form this summer and this success story continued. Grace McCullough in the under 15 shot got to work early in the morning – thus avoiding the rain – and went over 10 metres for the first time with her best throw of 10.12 metres giving her first place. Later in the day – and certainly when the rain poured down – Rebekah Tyler in the under 17 shot saved her best until her sixth and last throw of 11.60 metres to move her up from second to first place.
Lucy Rogers kept the throws medals coming with 20.66 metres in the under 17 discus gaining her second place. Just to remind us that there’s more to athletics than throwing Rachel Tyler cleared 1.45 metres in the under 15 high jump for another second place. And in the sand pit Ella West came up with a pb of 10.26 metres to claim third place in her under 17 triple jump.
And just outside the medals – and all coming fourth in their event – we had our remaining 4 athletes. Miah Blackburn had to run heats and final in her under 15 300 metres. In her final she was just beaten into fourth place in a time of 46.39 seconds. Earlier in the day she had run 45.53 seconds in her heat. Daniel Leroy had a straight final in his under 17 200 metres with 25.31 seconds getting him a fourth place. Ella Kessell was perhaps a little below her best to come fourth in the under 15 discus (perhaps she should have been selected for the hammer) and Ellis Beynon jumped a pb of 10.45 metres in his under 15 triple jump for another fourth place.
This coming Saturday there will be a schools inter-county match at Erith in Kent and we expect that Grace, Rebekah, Rachel and Lucy will all be taking part.
Under 13 match on Thursday evening
Our under 13s (school years 6 and 7) have a match at K2 this coming Thursday evening June 13. Suzie Shelley has been contacting our athletes and we wish them all well for the evening. This does mean that there is no training for under 13s at Imberhorne that evening – all under 13s are expected to go to K2 on Thursday evening.

This coming Saturday June 15 our seniors (including those in school years 10 and above) have their third match of the season. We make the relatively short trip down to Lewes.
