No match today
I’m writing this on Sunday April 19 – which should have been our first league match of this summer. Our under 17 and under 20 athletes would have joined with fellow athletes from the Lewes and Eastbourne clubs to form Team Sussex in the YDL UAG – Youth Development League Upper Age Group if you don’t know what the initials stand for.
I should have been asking my wife to make me a lunch, I should have been getting the sun cream out to put in my bag, I should have been looking at the weather forecast to see if I needed my wet weather gear or my cold weather gear, I should be checking that there were no problems with the roads on my way to the track, I should be making sure that I had clip-boards and pens and pencils in my bag to help with judging of the field events that we have been allocated, I should be making sure that I have kept up to date with any changes in the competition rules, I should have arranged pick-up times for any athletes I am taking to the match. And probably lots of other things to make sure I was ready to start the season.
But you will realise that I have not had to do any of these things. And it may be quite a while before I need to get myself ready in order to support our athletes – whether under 13s or over 50s – in their various matches. Might even have to wait until this time next year ???
