Here’s an update on the early part of the summer competitive season. We have been told that the matches listed below have been cancelled:
Saturday 24 April for under 13s and under 15s (school years 6, 7, 8 and 9).
Sunday 2 May for under 17s and under 20s (school years 10, 11, 12 and 13 plus those born between 1/1/2002 and 13/8/2002).
Saturday 15 May for under 13a and under 15s (school years 6, 7, 8 and 9).
Saturday 22 May for adults and for those in school years 10, 11, 12 and 13.
In addition the Sussex County Championships scheduled for 8 and 9 May may well become an open meeting to welcome Sussex athletes back to competition – subject of course to the government’s rules on the coronavirus.
At the moment it is hoped that matches scheduled for Sunday 30 May and for the rest of the summer season can still go ahead.
We are still hoping to re-start training in early April and we will let our members know more when we know more.
What have I been doing over the last few days ?
I’ve been a bit lazy over the last few days with much of my time being spent watching the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland. It was great to see good class athletes competing against each other – with titles and medals at stake helping to give it a real edge. The television coverage gives greater priority to the track events, but I think it’s the field events that can offer greater excitement as jumpers and throwers aim to overtake their opposition, especially in the last couple of rounds.
