Not much news to report from Lewes plus looking forward to Sussex Champs

Match for under 17s and under 20s on Sunday June 27

We only had 3 athletes able to compete alongside athletes from Eastbourne and Lewes in the composite team known as Team Sussex. A 3 were throwers with Ella Kessell in the under 17 hammer and discus, Lucy Rogers in the same events as Ella but in the under 20 age-group and Matti Fish in the under 20 shot and javelin. I haven’t as yet seen the results though I do know that Ella improved her 3k hammer best – which she had set only last week – by another metre or so.

Training on Tuesday June 29

With England playing Germany on Tuesday evening we have decided to cancel Tuesday’s training session at Sackville so that we can all watch the match – and hope that we see a win for Gareth Southgate’s men. Some of you will be aware that Gareth Southgate is a Crawley lad, but you may not realise that one of the track and field judges you will see at K2 is his dad Clive.

Training at Imberhorne will take place as normal on Thursday July 1 and we will be back at Sackville on the following Tuesday evening.

Sussex County Championships in the first couple of weeks in July

The County Champs for under 15s and above take place this coming Sunday July 4 at the Withdean Stadium in Brighton. I don’t know how many athletes we have competing but we wish them well and hope for a medal or two – and more importantly we hope for a number of pbs. (If you haven’t entered as yet then it’s too late.)

Our under 13 and academy athletes do have a few more days to enter with their championships taking place on Saturday July 10, again at Withdean.
